With more than 80% of postdocs having signed authorization cards, we are excited to announce that we have filed our petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to have an official vote to form Einstein Researchers United-UAW as our Union!

This election will allow all of us to vote to form our union. Once a majority votes “yes,” we will elect a bargaining committee of Postdocs, decide on our shared priorities democratically, and start negotiations with the Einstein administration.

As one of the immediate next steps in the process, the NLRB has scheduled hearings to discuss any potential objections Einstein may raise regarding our petition. Hearings are currently scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 23.

We hope that Einstein responds to our request to meet, so that we can discuss a fair and efficient election process, and does not attempt to delay the process with legal challenges. We will keep everyone updated as we move forward.

Last Wednesday, we delivered an Open Letter signed by Postdocs from departments where over 90% of us work, calling on Einstein to remain neutral and discuss a fair and efficient process for moving towards bargaining.

Lastly, our unionized colleagues at Columbia and Mount Sinai, who are part of UAW Local 4100, are holding a spring social event on Friday, May 3, at 6pm to celebrate recent efforts to improve working conditions by postdocs across New York City. This is a great opportunity to ask our fellow researchers’ about their experience with unionization as we move towards our own vote. Click here to RSVP for the event!
