The Trump Administration is attempting to pass massive funding cuts to scientific research and higher education for the 2026 federal budget, including a 37% ($18 billion) cut to the NIH. Any cut to scientific research will have severe consequences on promising medical breakthroughs and innovation, and jobs.
In order to fight these attacks on scientific research and higher education, we must build a nationwide movement of higher ed workers that can pressure elected officials in both political parties. To do this, we will have to reach out to higher ed workers in other parts of the country, especially in “red” districts and states.
On Tuesday, 5/27 at 12pm PT/3pm ET, higher ed workers across the country will gather to phonebank our colleagues in strategic Republican Congressional districts and encourage them to join the campaign to protect research funding. Fill out this form to join the phonebank.

Since coming to office, the Trump Administration has attempted to attack science and public research funding in countless ways, including by cancelling NIH grants and fellowships and blocking review of grant applications. Our union, UAW, is one of the plaintiffs in a case filed in federal court by the ACLU that is challenging these cancellations.
It is crucial for workers to provide information to our attorneys to gather information from UAW members about the impact of NIH grant terminations (both termination of individual grants and termination of grant programs) or grant applications that were delayed without answer or administratively withdrawn by NIH.
This information collected will be used to argue for which grants should be reinstated in the event the case is successful, so please fill out as much information as possible. The attorneys have filed a protective order in this case, and personally identifying information will be confidential and not released publicly.
