The federal government has continued to attack higher education and research, including terminating billions of dollars in grant funding across fields and forcing regulation changes at many institutions. At the same time, the Einstein administration has consistently rejected rights and protections in our contract that are important to us, such as support for international workers, protections against unjust termination, and protections against discrimination and harassment. Now the Trump administration is demanding a 40% reduction in NIH funding in the upcoming federal budget along with drastic restructuring of the institute that will dissolve many opportunities, which makes our positions that much more unstable. We need to block these cuts and win a fair contract now to protect our jobs and the fate of our science.

On May 15th at 5PM in Price 357, we will be holding an organizing workshop to learn best practices for building our contract campaign here at Einstein! Our current positions are unprotected, leaving both our careers and our important science in jeopardy. Winning a fair contract is critical for protecting and expanding our workplace rights and protections during this challenging time, especially for those of us who are international workers. The more postdocs who join our organizing team, the better our chances of winning a great first contract!
Register here to join a virtual phone bank on May 13 at 3PM, where we will urge our elected representatives to support research funding in the congressional budget! Academic workers in the UAW have been working with congressional representatives, such as Senator Warren and our own Representative Ocasio-Cortez, to draft “Dear Colleague” letters in support of research funding that other representatives can sign onto. On May 13th at 3pm, academic workers across the country are calling on as many Representatives as possible, particularly from historically “red” districts, to sign these letters. A short training and talking points will be provided at the start of the phonebank.
